Jadavpur University (in Kolkata, India) arose as an educational institute to the challenge the British rule by offering education to the masses “on national lines and under national control” through an amalgamation of the “National Council of Education” and the “Society for Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal” in 1906.
The School was founded in 1989 by Dr. Dipankar Chakraborti. His research group highlighted the arsenic groundwater problem in West Bengal, Rajnandangaon (Madhya Pradesh) and Bangladesh and the fluorosis problem in Assam.
The Sundarbans (meaning, the beautiful forest in the local language, Bangla), lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers off the Bay of Bengal.
